GLOW is a world top 5 light art festival happening each year in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

GLOW is a light art festival which is organised by the GLOW Eindhoven foundation. GLOW can be described as an exhibition in the public space of Eindhoven of 35 famous national and international light artists. The light artworks are connected by a walking route.

Besides the light artworks and numerous side events there are also innovative, unique works of art that are created by young talents.

Shadows & Light

The year’s theme is called ‘Shadows & Light’.  “Every picture has its shadows. And it has some source of light. Blindness, blindness and sight”. (Joni Mitchell)

No light without shadows, no image without content. With this year’s theme GLOW 2018 searches for this duality. Effectively, it’s not only about the ultimate contrast between black and white, but also about much and little, inside and outside, restraint and abundance…light and shadow. Within the contradiction, the story is born; there’s no experience without contrast. ‘Shadows’ and ‘Light’ lacking, we would find ourselves in a grey landscape in which life evaporates.

The GLOW mission statement for the coming years is concise and convincing:

“Eindhoven makes the difference in Light Art”.

from gloweindhoven.nl/en:
“Last year, the project Light Dome, created by the Eindhoven light artist Har Hollands, was still under construction and could be seen in its first raw form. This year, we can enjoy the fully completed light installation as it had originally been designed.

With this quality impulse, the owner of the Heuvel shoppping center, CBRE Global Investors, enhances the attractiveness of Eindhoven as a shopping city. And it bears witness of the vision that they chose for a permanent light installation under the big dome of the Forum, so appropriate to Eindhoven City of Light.

The light dome consists of 121 light-transparent tubes, provided with reflecting layers. Every tube is attached to a cable and can be positioned at different heights, operated by an engine. The cable conducts electricity to the 20 light sources in each tube, thus generating a palette of colours. Eight loudspeakers will produce the sound to enhance the spatial effect. A central control system makes sure all movements, light- and sound effects are synchronised in order to create a coherent spectacle.”

DGTL Festival is back in 2015! The Amsterdam festival – renowned for it’s line-up, art and sustainability program – returns to the NDSM Docklands. During the Easter Holiday over 80 artists from around the world showcase the best of innovative electronic music. Headliners include popular international acts like Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Dixon and Ten Walls and underground masterminds such as Michael Mayer, Move D and John Talabot. Combined with an extensive art and awareness program, DGTL Festival 2015 is the perfect start of the festival season. Expect innovative stage designs, art installations from around the world and sustainable innovation through our DGTL Revolution project, which has been awarded a two out of four star rating by ‘A Greener Festival’ last month.

The NDSM area is a gigantic abandoned shipyard ten minutes from Amsterdam Central station and fits the DGTL vibe perfectly. On the 4th and 5th of April 2015 the docklands will be transformed into one of the industry’s leading underground festivals, with a progressive approach on every aspect.

Seeking to connect the fields of tech innovation and warehouse-based nostalgia, DGTL ART will showcase a variety of innovative lighting, futuristic sculptures and crazy interactive performance acts to enhance the ambiance.

Hypercube, an intense installation art experience

Hypercube is an art installation in which the viewer is immersed in an audiovisual environment. The cube-shaped space of the Hypercube -surrounded by mirrors and dynamic lightlines- guarantees a stunning multi-sensory experience. Infinite reflections, lack of spatial reference, intense focus, disorientation and a distorted sense of time and space are key. Hypercube gives its own definition of how space can be experienced and adds a new dimension to one of the most cultivated building blocks known to mankind: the Cube. For more info about this project, check out this article: http://www.enlightermagazine.com/projects/hypercube-jaap-van-den-elzen
