DGTL Festival is back in 2015! The Amsterdam festival – renowned for it’s line-up, art and sustainability program – returns to the NDSM Docklands. During the Easter Holiday over 80 artists from around the world showcase the best of innovative electronic music. Headliners include popular international acts like Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Dixon and Ten Walls and underground masterminds such as Michael Mayer, Move D and John Talabot. Combined with an extensive art and awareness program, DGTL Festival 2015 is the perfect start of the festival season. Expect innovative stage designs, art installations from around the world and sustainable innovation through our DGTL Revolution project, which has been awarded a two out of four star rating by ‘A Greener Festival’ last month.

The NDSM area is a gigantic abandoned shipyard ten minutes from Amsterdam Central station and fits the DGTL vibe perfectly. On the 4th and 5th of April 2015 the docklands will be transformed into one of the industry’s leading underground festivals, with a progressive approach on every aspect.

Seeking to connect the fields of tech innovation and warehouse-based nostalgia, DGTL ART will showcase a variety of innovative lighting, futuristic sculptures and crazy interactive performance acts to enhance the ambiance.

America’s only festival devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space, The San Francisco Tape Music Festival features three distinct evenings of classic audio art and new fixed media compositions by 32 local and international composers. Hear members of the SF Tape Music Collective, along with guest composers, shape the sound live over a pristine surround system consisting of 16 high-end loudspeakers while the audience is seated in complete darkness. It’s a unique opportunity to experience music forming – literally – around you.

The 2015 Festival features two concerts showcasing the entire range of the “fixed media” artform; a Saturday late-night concert of longer, psychedelic, and ambient tape pieces (including the premiere of the 17-minute, 16-channel “full” version of BRIAN ENO’S Golden); and a concert featuring SFSOUNDGROUP musicians performing electroacoustic works by French and American composers.

The Saturday 11pm concert features a premiere by BRIAN ENO. In 2007, Eno composed a 16-channel piece, Golden for our festival. He created multiple versions of various lengths, and the “full” 17-minute version will have its public debut on this program. In addition, we present a rare performance of PAULINE OLIVEROS’S The Day I Disconnected The Erase Head And Forgot To Reconnect It – one of her classic analog synth tape pieces from 1966 that predates the Bay Area Noise scene by decades. The program also includes a new work by dutch composer AUGUSTO MEIJER and a sonic landscape composition by San Francisco Tape Music Collective’s own CLIFF CARUTHERS.

“Utopia” @ Joint ICMC-SMC 2014 Conference

icmc

“Utopia” is an acousmatic composition journey that presents a brief momentum of colorfully structured sound fields, with the intention to boost an audience’s imagination into a temporary utopian mindset.

Prior to the creation of “Utopia” there have been a series of sound creation experiments. These experiments primarily involved “explorations” in the creation of complex sound fields. For example, a simplistic sound phrase is processed in such a structured way that it becomes a complex, layered sound field. Various relating sound fields have been generated this way, using similar sound sources. “Utopia” was created by organizing these resulting sound fields poetically.
